| Janis Rollow Butler, a member of ITE's violin
faculty, received her early training at Wichita State
University in Wichita, Kansas (Bachelor of Music
Education degree) and from the Eastman School of Music
in Rochester, New York (Master of Music degree). After
graduation she was a member of the Wichita Symphony
Orchestra and was an instructor of music in public
schools for four years.
She has participated in numerous teacher workshops and
national and international conferences, including the
first Suzuki Association of the Americas International
Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1975, at which
Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki method of
education, was the primary instructor.
Janis has been a member of various Suzuki summer
institute faculties (Ithaca, New York; Washington, D.C.;
Stevens Point, Wisconsin) from 1975 to the present time
and has regularly observed master teachers at those
institutes since 1971.
Her primary goal in a lifetime of teaching has been to
enrich the lives of her students and their families
through their enjoyment of music.
