Janis Butler

Janis Rollow Butler, a member of ITE’s violin faculty, received her early training at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas (Bachelor of Music Education degree) and from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York (Master of Music degree). After graduation she was a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and was an instructor of music in public schools for four years.
She has participated in numerous teacher workshops and national and international conferences, including the first Suzuki Association of the Americas International Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1975, at which Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki method of education, was the primary instructor.
Janis has been a member of various Suzuki summer institute faculties (Ithaca, New York; Washington, D.C.; Stevens Point, Wisconsin) from 1975 to the present time and has regularly observed master teachers at those institutes since 1971.
Her primary goal in a lifetime of teaching has been to enrich the lives of her students and their families through their enjoyment of music.
